Conditions linked to the key
The strongest accessible release-week source places the Golden Key inside Epicrates’ relationship section. It separately emphasizes three pieces of state: support choices that suit Epicrates, no use of rewind during the current 45 cycles, and possession of the Golden Key. The wording strongly suggests an extra intimate or relationship result when those conditions meet, but the same guide marks its dedicated romance subsection as unfinished.
- Recruit Epicrates. Current community routes require freeing him from prison or obtaining a not-guilty verdict at his trial.
- Build a favorable relationship. He responds to choices that challenge or reform the existing system; a tyrannical route works against that state.
- Do not rewind during the current run. Finishing a previous run and choosing Try Again does not count against this condition, according to the same guide.
- Keep the Golden Key. Do not assume it is disposable or sellable until the relevant scene has resolved.
Does the Golden Key open a door?
No verified public source checked for this page identifies a normal door. The high-frequency search wording “what does the Golden Key open?” may come from players treating every key as a physical-use item. Based on the evidence currently available, it is safer to describe the item as a condition checked by a character route than to invent a location.
If a later patch or reproducible guide identifies where the key is obtained and consumed, this page should add the exact audience, quest, cycle and resulting scene. Until then, a precise but unsupported map location would be worse than the honest boundary above.
Does NG+ invalidate the route?
Community testing says no. At day 45, choosing Try Again begins a new run and unlocks the wider ability set, but it does not count as using Demon Power inside that new 45-cycle attempt. The no-rewind requirement is evaluated against the current run. Once the new run begins, avoid manually rewinding if you are protecting the reported Epicrates and Golden Key condition.
How to protect the route
- Keep a separate save before any Demon Power use.
- Recruit Epicrates by a documented trial or prison-break route; do not send Tarcus on the break-out.
- Do not spend, discard or route away from the Golden Key before testing the character scene.
- Record whether the scene checks the item during dialogue, at the end of a cycle or in the ending sequence.
- Treat any claim about a physical lock as unverified unless the source shows the exact interaction.
