How to get Dullahan

The known trigger is simple but permanent: Goberto must die. The Bloody Magpie assignment is the earliest community-tested way to make that happen.

Quick answerSend Goberto on The Bloody Magpie and allow the fatal result. After a few cycles, Dullahan—spelled “Dulahan” in several current guides—can appear at court. Keeping Goberto alive prevents this recruitment on that timeline.

Step-by-step recruitment route

  1. Recruit Goberto on day 2. He arrives automatically in the normal opening sequence.
  2. Accept The Bloody Magpie. This early quest is the most consistently documented setup.
  3. Assign Goberto. Current guides report a special fatal result when his clumsiness meets this job.
  4. Do not undo the death. Dullahan’s appearance is tied to Goberto being dead, so rewinding or choosing a safe alternative removes the trigger.
  5. Continue for several cycles. Dullahan does not necessarily walk into court on the same result screen. Leave a Round Table seat available when possible.

Can you keep Goberto and recruit Dullahan?

Not in the same unaltered timeline according to both current recruitment guides. Their condition is explicit: Goberto must be dead. If you want to compare both characters, protect a save before The Bloody Magpie or use Try Again on the same save file. That also helps with completion goals that track Knights and transformations across repeated runs.

The trigger can reportedly occur in any act, but using the early Magpie route is easier because it leaves more cycles to develop Dullahan and test his transformations. If he has not appeared immediately, progress the audience rather than repeatedly replaying only the quest return.

Dullahan’s two Almor transformations

During the Almor tournament, the political-prisoner fight creates a mutually exclusive choice. Send Dullahan himself and he can take a human body. Send another Knight and the reward becomes a new helmet for Dullahan. Community guides describe both as permanent character states for the run.

Desired stateReported actionWarning
Human DullahanSend Dullahan to fight the political prisoners. The body-possession result changes his form and carries story implications.
New helmet DullahanSend someone other than Dullahan to that fight. One guide says the helmet can later be sold for 150 gold.

If you use knowledge from a previous run to choose the dragon as the second Almor task, you may bypass the political-prisoner opportunity and lose both Dullahan transformation paths for that run. Choose the tournament branch with the desired form in mind.

Useful assignments after recruitment

Community outcome testing associates Dullahan with New vessel for Dulahan, Political prisoner fighting, The Black Knight, The Flying Sirens and The Ghost Barge. Demonic, dark-magic and siren quests are therefore sensible places to test his personal context. An Unexpected Outcome can be different rather than universally better, so read the returned result before assuming it is optimal.

If Dullahan never appearsConfirm that Goberto actually died, not merely failed or became injured; continue several audience cycles; and check that the table has room. If the death was rewound, the recruitment condition is no longer present.

Return to the Knights directory for the wider roster or use the Unexpected Outcomes list to plan his assignments.
